Our Story

It began with a course requirement, a pandemic, and a conversation that slowly turned into something much larger.

What could have been an ordinary academic encounter became the starting point of a shared life and creative partnership. Jim Fogelquist and Yndiana Montes Fogelquist came together through a sequence of unexpected circumstances, but their connection grew from something deeper: a mutual respect for language, culture, music, and the stories that shape communities. Over time, that connection evolved into Nosotros Dos Productions, a documentary project built on curiosity, collaboration, and a desire to give voice to the people and traditions that often go unseen.

Their story is shaped by two very different but complementary paths. Jim brings the perspective of a scholar, musician, and lifelong student of Hispanic culture, with decades spent teaching, researching, and performing mariachi music. Yndiana brings the voice of a journalist and storyteller with a long career in radio, television, print, travel writing, and social media across Latin America and the Caribbean. Together, they combine academic depth, journalistic instinct, and creative vision in a way that gives their work a distinct human and cultural dimension.

At the heart of their work is a fascination with the spaces where cultures meet. Their documentaries explore the connection between Appalachian and Latin American traditions, the power of music to cross borders, and the importance of preserving stories tied to identity, memory, and place. Whether they are following musicians, documenting communities, or recording the rhythm of rural life, their films are guided by the same intention: to honor what is authentic, local, and deeply human.

Their recent work includes The Tracks of Joe Troop, a documentary that reflects their admiration for artists who blend musical traditions while advocating for social justice and cultural understanding. They are also developing projects centered on Mariachi Uclatlán and other stories connected to heritage, migration, and community life. Each project is part of a larger effort to document cultural continuity in a changing world.

Outside of filmmaking, Jim and Yndiana remain deeply connected to community life, sustainable practices, and the landscapes that inspire them. Their story is not only about how they met, but about how shared values, lived experience, and creative purpose came together to form a way of working and living. Nosotros Dos Productions is, at its core, the result of that journey a collaboration built on love, respect, and the belief that stories can bridge worlds.
